Shannta Silver Clay, a sculpting clay that transforms into 99.99% pure silver jewelry with your own hands
"I don't have a kiln at home." "The studio is too far; it's inconvenient to travel just to fire a piece." "Do I have to invest in an expensive kiln?"
We understand completely, and we have great news for you: you don't need a kiln to create beautiful, pure silver jewelry right from the comfort of your own home!
The obstacle of equipment is now a thing of the past. All that's left is your imagination. That's because you can use a "kitchen gas stove" or a "small butane torch"both easy to find as a substitute. And the result? Stunning, pure silver that is just as beautiful.
Firing Silver Clay at Home: As Easy as Grilling!
Many might think firing silver is a complex process, but in reality, it's simpler and more fun than you imagine. We want to share this technique with all the artists looking to try new materials, or for those who live far away and can't easily travel to a studio.
What You'll Need:
- Your fully dried Shannta Silver Clay piece (Very important!)
2. A gas stove or a butane torch
3. A stainless steel mesh (to place on the gas stove) or a firing block (for use with a torch)
4. Heat-resistant tongs or tweezers
Simple Firing Steps:
1. Place the completely dry piece on the mesh (for a gas stove) or the firing block (for a torch).
2. Turn on the gas stove or light the torch and begin to gently heat the piece.
3. You will see a small amount of smoke rise from the piece. That is the binder burning off. Don't be alarmed.
4. Continue heating until the entire piece glows a bright orange-red.
5. Turn off the heat and let the piece cool down naturally. Do not, under any circumstances, quench it in water.
And that's it! The clay in your hands will have transformed into "pure, solid silver," strong and ready to be polished to a beautiful shine. A one-of-a-kind creation, made by you.
